HUNTFIELD
MASTER PLAN | CHARLES TOWN, WV | 2001 – 2005

In 2000, Cunningham | Quill led a new master planning team effort for the design of this 996-acre, proposed residential mixed-use plan located in Charles Town, WV. Within the county’s urban growth boundary and adjacent to several important Washington family homes, the Huntfield plan draws heavily from local character and history. The plan reflects principles of smart growth such as compact design, directing development toward existing communities, a mix of land uses, and pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods with parks, civic buildings and retail.

A proposed open space system connects to downtown Charles Town and its future trail system. Following months of interactive public meetings Jefferson County voted to support the new plan and eight months later, Huntfield was annexed into the City of Charles Town. The project seeks to become a transit-oriented development (TOD) plan that would connect the site with downtown Washington via an existing regional commuter rail that bisects the site.
