Project Description

KALORAMA PARK ROWHOUSE

Kalorama Park Rowhouse re-envisions a historic rowhouse in the heart of Washington, DC into an urban oasis. The completely renovated interior preserves significant historic elements like the stair and front elevation, transforming spaces into contemporary and light filled areas that showcase the owner’s art collection. A rear addition creates an open-space kitchen area and a new master bedroom suite. The addition features floor to ceiling doors offering views to the new pool and landscaping. A new cellar porch is tucked behind the pool provides striking views directly across its surface. The longitudinal axis along the site guided the architectural design and provides a visual connection from the existing and new interior spaces to the rear pool and exterior elements. The pool is positioned for maximum daylight exposure while also taking advantage of the natural topography. An underground rain garden and Silva Cells capture water below the pavers creating a robust but hidden storm water management system. The rear garage was also renovated into a private artist studio.
