SHERMAN & GLORIA H. COHEN CAREER CENTER AT THE COLLEGE OF WILLIAM & MARY

Project Description

This building represents the College of William & Mary’s desire for a career center that reflects the quality of its campus, students and faculty to the professional world. The building gives architectural consideration to the existing historic campus fabric while creating a modern addition that fits comfortably within its cherished surroundings. Its focal point is a two-story glass “Living Room” that connects two brick wings. Inside the Living Room, a slate fireplace anchors the two-story Anigre Mahogany wood-clad space, a contemporary interpretation of some of the school’s historic spaces. The furniture and fabrics of this space reflect the richness of Colonial colors and the vibrance of student lifestyles, creating a positive space for casual interactions. To the rear, these wings enclose a presentation room with a roof terrace that provides views into the historic 1930s Zable Stadium. The design, which creates a new student gathering plaza and amphitheater, has become a new center for campus life.
