CATCH & RELEASE

Project Description

Located on 172 acres in Bluemont, Virginia, this rural site is divided between forest and meadow. The new home, on 18 acres at the north end of the site, has a large living room with open views to the meadow. The east wing of the house contains the kitchen, dining room, and screened porch, while the west wing contains the master bedroom suite. Three children’s rooms and an office/exercise area are above.

As a weekend and vacation home that does not use external power when it is not occupied, numerous sustainable strategies were employed including a geothermal heating and cooling system, expansive overhangs, LED lighting, a photovoltaic panel grid with net metering, a solar pool heater, and a solar chimney.
