THE CLAYBORNE

 

Located in the south end of the historic district at the gateway entry to the City of Alexandria, this new mixed-use residential and retail project completes the master plan for an existing neighborhood retail center. The building, which occupies the west half of a city block, intends to be seen as a series of discrete structures with varying treatment of mass, scale and architectural detail. Inspired by the finer urban fabric of Old Town and neighborhood garden apartment typologies, a center four-story manor house and flanking three-story townhouse buildings with porches and intimate garden courtyards maintain the scale and articulation of the adjacent residential streetscapes. The building includes 75 multi-family units, below grade parking and ground floor retail to provide resources for both the public and residents, while its varied design enriches the texture of this unique urban neighborhood.
