Project Description

CHEVY CHASE SMALL AREA PLAN

The Chevy Chase Small Area Plan (CCSAP) provided a community-driven framework to guide future growth and investment in alignment with the District’s Comprehensive Plan goals for equity and sustainability. Developed in 2021–2022 through an extensive public engagement process led by the DC Office of Planning, the plan reflects a shared vision shaped by residents, local organizations, and neighborhood leadership. Recognizing that significant physical change has been limited for decades, the CCSAP anticipates gradual, incremental redevelopment, with the reimagined Chevy Chase Library and Community Center serving as a key near-term catalyst for mixed-income housing and community investment. Centered on people-focused planning, the CCSAP promotes inclusive design, affordable housing, economic vitality, and safe, sustainable mobility, organizing its long-term vision around six core themes that support a more equitable and resilient Chevy Chase corridor.

The plan focuses on six areas:

Inviting Social and Cultural Character

Equitable Housing Strategy

Inclusive Built Environment

Thriving Retail Corridor

Reimagined Civic Core

Safe and Sustainable Mobility
