Mary Schutte, LEED Green Associate, RIDQC, is an Architectural Designer at Cunningham | Quill Architects with experience in residential architecture, interiors, and sustainable design. She holds a NAAB-accredited Bachelor of Architecture from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, with a minor in Sustainable Environments. During her time there, Ms. Schutte studied abroad in Rome and participated in their San Francisco Urban Design program. Her thesis focused on dual-family housing as a response to America’s housing crisis and per capita consumption rates. The project explored shared living models as a way to reduce natural energy usage and environmental impact, reflecting her ongoing interest in resource-conscious and community-driven design solutions.

Ms. Schutte has worked at architecture firms in both Washington, DC, and San Francisco. Her experience includes historic residential renovations in Capitol Hill, as well as high-end custom homes and hospitality work in the Bay Area. Outside of the office, Mary enjoys Marathon training and furniture fabrication. She is also an active member of the AIA DC Emerging Architects Committee and volunteers with Food & Friends and DC Central Kitchen.
