DAIRY MARKET
Cunningham | Quill Architects worked with Stony Point Development Group on a multi-phased redevelopment of the historic Monticello Dairy site, located in Charlottesville, Virginia. Immediately adjacent to the “10th and Page” neighborhood, the goal of the project is to create an active space for community connection, recreation and revitalization. The first phase, Dairy Market, is the adaptive reuse of the historic 1937 Monticello Dairy manufacturing and distribution facility to a new food hall. Dairy Market is a vibrant community hub for local restaurants, food venders, a brewery, and retail shops. The Dairy Market entrance was expanded to a double height light-filled space that welcomes patrons in a refreshed and lively environment with industrial-inspired, modern finishes. A new pedestrian terrace activates Grady Avenue and adds desired outdoor gathering space. Nestled within the back of Dairy Market is a contemporary four-story Class A office building; an addition wrapped in copper, zinc, and brick in a manner that both complements the existing industrial details of the historic Dairy while distinguishing it as a separate element.
