DCOP SMALL AREA PLANS

DC OFFICE OF PLANNING (DCOP)
SMALL AREA PLANS

Cunningham | Quill and LINK Strategic Partners assisted the DC Office of Planning (DCOP) with community outreach and visualization of concepts for three Small Area Plans- the Chevy Chase, Pennsylvania Avenue East, and Congress Heights Small Area Plans.

The project team worked with DCOP staff on how to strategically and graphically represent key consultant and city recommendations and plan goals for each study area. While each of the three study areas had unique characteristics, each of the communities converged on shared goals and planning principles, such as: emphasizing the unique character of the neighborhoods by highlighting elements like special historic buildings, key local businesses, public open spaces,  and fine-grained retail streetscapes, re-imagining neighborhood centers by prioritizing the public realm, pedestrian environment over the car-dominated landscape; moving towards mixed-use neighborhood centers with a range of housing and affordability options; coordinating development with easily-accessible transit options; working with the community on design guidelines to help tailor new development to best fit the existing communities.
