Announcing 2022 Firm Promotions

Cunningham | Quill Architects is pleased to announce the promotions of Madeline Stokoe, AIA, to Associate; Anton Markin, AIA to Senior Associate; Angie Yu, AIA, and Phoebe Larson, AIA, LEED-AP, to Associate Principal. John Michael Day, AIA, LEED-AP BD+C, and David Coxson AIA, NCARB have been named Principal.


These individuals are being recognized for their professional accomplishments, on-going commitment to design excellence, and dedication to the success of our practice. Please join us in celebrating the hard work and achievements of these employees.



John Michael Day, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, has been named Principal. A member of the Cunningham | Quill team for over fourteen years, Michael has a diverse and award-winning body of work, including single- and multi-family residential, infill mixed-use, commercial office, institutional, adaptive reuse and historic preservation. Michael vies for an innovative and thoughtful design process that supports diversity and team collaboration. He has been integral to the success of the firms award-winning projects that include the Residences at St. Elizabeths East in Washington, D.C., and the adaptive reuse of the historic Dairy Market in Charlottesville VA. Currently, Michael is the Co-Chair for the AIA|DC Design Excellence Committee.



David R. Coxson, AIA, NCARB has been named Principal. David has worked at Cunningham | Quill for over ten years and has been integral to the practice in design, management, and leadership. He has extensive experience in leading design teams on award-winning projects of all types and scales, with a focus on urban adaptive-reuse and new construction projects for both institutional and commercial clients. With a keen interest in preservation, adaptive-reuse, and the craft of architecture, David strives to develop successful intersections of new and old in his design work.


With the upcoming opening of our new office in Charlotte, NC, David is leading the firm’s expansion efforts in the Carolinas and Southeast region. He looks forward to forging new relationships and bringing the firm’s expertise to a dynamic new market.



Angie Yu, AIA has been promoted to Associate Principal. Angie joined Cunningham | Quill over eighteen years ago and continues to add to the breadth of our housing portfolio. She has led single-family and multifamily projects of all styles ranging from historic restorations to transitional renovations to new modern homes. Her dedication to the comprehensive design of each project shows that no detail is too small. Angie focuses the majority of her time creating homes for our single-family clients, while providing an excellent client experience.



Phoebe Larson, AIA, LEED-AP has been promoted to Associate Principal. A member of the CQA team for eleven years, she has completed a variety of projects including new affordable multifamily residential developments, single family residences, commercial and mixed-use developments, and historic and institutional projects. Her recent focus has increasingly included affordable and sustainable multifamily projects, with expertise designing to form based code. Her focus on sustainability and good design, support her goal to contribute to the built environment.



Anton Markin, AIA has been promoted to Senior Associate. Anton has twelve years of experience with the firm. Anton has worked on projects ranging from single family renovations, new single-family homes, multifamily-mixed use, affordable housing, commercial, institutional, infrastructure, higher education, adaptive reuse of historic buildings, and a food hall. He believes in early, close and continuous collaboration with all project stakeholders, designers, and builders to ensure an elegant, efficient and sustainable design to meet each client’s needs. Before becoming an Architect, he studied and worked in Engineering. These experiences allow him to look at design challenges from every angle to ensure the best solution possible.



Madeline Stokoe, AIA has been promoted to Associate. Madeline joined Cunningham | Quill over four years ago. During her time at the firm, she has focused on single-family and multi-family residential projects. She has been involved in all phases of the design process and construction, leading projects from beginning to end. Her national work and international study experience have allowed Madeline to develop a meticulous eye for detail and an affinity for problem-solving. Her continued interest in urban design informs her work on projects of every scale.
