The First and Last of the Short-Term Family Housing Facilities

Updated: Sep 7, 2021

Cunningham | Quill is proud to be the Architect of both Short-Term Family Housing Facilities in Ward 7 and in Ward 1. As a part of Mayor Bowser’s program to combat homelessness in Washington DC, a shelter for families was built in each of the 8 Wards in Washington DC starting in 2016. Cunningham Quill designed a 35 dormitory style unit building at 5004 D Street SE which opened in the fall of 2018 and was the first of the new facilities to open under this program. Three years later, the 50-apartment unit building (which also includes 15 units for Permanent Supportive Housing) opened at 1400 Clifton Street NW, and was a capstone to this program which serves as a national model for housing for those in need.
